Watch a video from Eros Entertainment on YouTube, and you will first be treated to an ad featuring Salman Khan. You can watch all of his hits on your computer or mobile device! And other hits! Look at all these movies, oh, and look at Khan, too!
Pragmatically, I’m tired of hearing the same commercial repeatedly. I feel like I’ve been watching this commercial for years, decades, eternity.
But the heart of the matter is that I am tired of Khan, of thinking about him, of moving around him. The controversy section on his Wikipedia page is so long. I don’t know the veracity of these claims, what really happened between him and Aishwarya Rai, whether his philanthropy makes up for his transgressions.
I try to avoid art made by terrible people. Yes, your, mine, and our faves are problematic. But there are plenty of actors who haven’t been suspected of domestic violence, who haven’t been involved in hit-and-runs. Artists who have done wrong and apologized.
Khan’s movies are hits. They are hits because people watch them.
Let us not, maybe, reward terrible people?
